With a little help from my (Yangon) friends

When starting any new venture in life it really helps to have a support team, and Mia Ruby is lucky to have lots of friends here in Yangon. Mia Ruby is very proud to design, source and produce all our jewellery locally in Myanmar. We also believe in sourcing our business goods and services locally as well.

Mia Ruby recently set up our first retail shop in Yangon (yay)! In my last blog New kids on the Pansodan block, I talked mentioned a few people that had been really helpful in getting our new shop up and running, including our broker Daniel Norman and street artist Arker Kyaw who did our awesome mural. But I also wanted to mention a few others who have contributed to the success of our business.

Let’s start with lovely team @ the Yangon Collective. Without the exposure from participating in the Yangon Collective Winter Market we would not be where we are today. Their market format has been extremely useful for a new retail business trying to establish a market presence and a client base.

Then there are Jamie and Jasmine @ Burma Chindits furniture who have developed and hand made our beautiful recycled Myanmar teak jewellery boxes. They also supplied a few of our display fittings as well.

Next is Sabrina and her team of sewers @ Flame Tree who make our local Myanmar cotton and silk jewellery bags. I love going to visit them at their awesome workshop and showroom next to Helping Hands. So much enthusiasm!

I would also really like to thank our neighbours @ Hla Day craft and designs for a very warm welcome to the neighbourhood. I have sourced quite a few of our funky display items from them (the owls are my favourite) which really complement our look.

And finally Rangoon Tea House for keeping us fed and particularly for my morning glass of la phet lay which makes facing downtown traffic just that bit more bearable!

If you haven’t had a chance to drop into our shop yet then come check us out at 79 Pansodan St in downtown Yangon. We are open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5.30pm.

We are also now listed on Tripadvisor! We have already had a couple of excellent reviews, and if you are a Mia Ruby fan we would love you to contribute a review for us as well.

PS we have some lovely new hand crafted sapphire and spinel jewellery about to hit the store this week. These are one of a kind new designs hand made by our goldsmiths in 18 gold. Don’t miss out!
